OK, I can't provide links to this new story because of DML restrictions on direct links or information on the commercial sale of fossils, but French news sources are reporting that "Skinny" the diplodocid "fait un flop" at the auction held in Paris yesterday when bids failed to reach the owner's asking price. The specimen was withdrawn from the auction. Paleontologists, including the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology, objected to the sale. The specimen is a diplodocid found in Wyoming, said to be possibly distinct from Diplodocus, 90% complete, and has preserved skin (thus its nickname "Skinny"). It was put on public display in a bipedal pose in a number places over the last few months to generate interest. I didn't post any information about it because of the pending (and now unsuccessful) sale at auction.
